GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club Gives $2,000 Scholarship to
School for Autistic Children

March 15, 2022 – Clearwater, Florida   Each year, GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club awards scholarships to deserving students who need financial support to continue their education.  Due to their successful fundraising efforts at their annual Christmas Under the Oaks arts and craft festival held each November, the club is able to offer scholarships in various amounts.

Autism Inspired Academy is the recipient of a $2,000 scholarship from GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club.  The academy is an education-based nonprofit that applies character education and social-skill development as the foundation of student growth. Their mission is to empower children with autism to have lives of meaning, purpose and joy.  The staff works to build self-confidence, self-awareness and social abilities while exposing students to a developmentally appropriate academic program.

The scholarship donation was presented to Cher Harris, Principal of Autism Inspired Academy.  Harris commented, “The GFWC scholarship donation gives children the opportunity to attend Autism Inspired Academy that otherwise could not afford the tuition.  Each scholarship is giving the student an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment designed specifically for children on the spectrum.  Every child deserves access to a quality educational program regardless of their socioeconomic status.  Also, raising a child with Autism impacts the entire family.  This scholarship for students allows us to provide support, advocacy, and education to their families.  This donation truly changes lives in our community.”

The 170+ volunteers of GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club are actively engaged in community improvement.  In 2021, GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club participated in over 350 service projects, volunteered over 22,000 hours and donated more than $97,000 in community grants, scholarships, monetary and in-kind donations.
