Elect Her

GFWC North Pinellas Woman's Club and the League of Women Voters North Pinellas County are pleased to present Elect Her, a one-day nonpartisan training for women on how to run for student government and political office. Elect Her was developed with the American Association of University Women and is administered by Running Start, a nonpartisan nonprofit.

Less than 1 in 4 elected leaders are women. But when they run, they win at the same rates as men - the problem is that not enough enter the arena. Engaging women early is key to increasing the number of women leading at schools, in communities, and in politics.

Elect Her participants learn campaign strategy and leadership skills, like public speaking and networking and meet elected women role models in their community. They leave with a plan to run for student and/or political office.

The energy at an Elect Her workshop is electric. That feeling doesn't end when the workshop is over. Alums of each workshop are invited to Running Start's events and to apply to their other programs.

Women in politics often struggle to access the powerful contacts and encouragement they need to succeed. So, Running Start established their own hub to fill that gap. In Running Start's online communities, young women connect with each other and with high-level mentors across the nation and the world.
